

The stocks have minor handlign wear with only a few scattered minor marks. Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are a two piece smooth wood with finger-grooved semi-beavertail forend, pistol grip, straight comb, solid black rubber Remington buttpad, and a sling swuivel mounted in the belly (the other swivel is mounted to the rear of the bayonet lug).

The rear sight is a “U”-notch leaf which is missing its elevator, dovetailed to a base fixed to the rear of the barrel. Sights / Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade dovetailed to a serrated, ramped base fixed to the front of the barrel. The left of the buttstock has a cirlced stars and eagle cartouche. The sides of the receiver and the bolt have scroll roll-engraving. The left of the receiver is marked “Remington Model – 1100” and with the serial number. The right-front of the receiver is marked “U.S.” below the ejection port. The top-left of the barrel at the rear and the top-left of the receiver at the front each have a double-marked “P”. Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “12 GA FOR 2 3/4″ OR SHORTER SHELLS”, the right appears to have a standard Remington barrel address, we were not able to remove the heat shield to inspect for additional markings. Remington model 878 12ga Field Description: Remington model 878 12ga field grade.The 878 was the immediate predecessor to the 1100 and was only built between 19.It is a gas operated semi auto similar to the 1100.This gun has a 28' plain barrel choked modified.It retains 98% of the original blue and wood finish and is totally unaltered and original.This is a very hard gun to find. The Model 1889 begins with serial number 001 in 1889 and runs through 250,401+ in 1910. The Model 1882/3 starts with serial number 001 in 1882 and runs through 15,000+ in 1884. One must be careful with Remington serial numbers because the serial numbers for the Models 1882/83 and the Model 1889 are the same.
